Si practicas yoga online o en algún estudio, seguramente habrás escuchado el mantra Om Shanti Shanti Shanti. Es bastante habitual concluir la práctica de yoga con el canto de este mantra continuado por un último Namasté de agradecimiento.
Algunas de mis alumnas me han preguntado por su significado en más de una ocasión. Entender su significado y cantarlo, sintiéndolo desde el corazón, lo potencia, cambiando por completo la experiencia y su repercusión en nosotros y en el mundo.
Vayamos al grano
¿Qué significa Om Shanti?
Om Shanti Shanti shanti es un mantra para la paz. Cuando lo cantamos invocamos que todos los seres vivos encuentren la paz.
Rezamos, oramos, deseamos o pedimos que todo ser vivo pueda encontrar la serenidad y escapar del sufrimiento, es decir, que pueda conectar con la calma y el amor.
A continuación desglosaré el significado de las palabras en sánscrito que conforman el mantra:
Om es considerado el primer sonido, el sonido del universo, el sonido del cual todos los demás sonidos se han formado. Om simboliza la realidad, la divinidad y la naturaleza. Representa todo en el universo, pasado, presente y futuro. Incluso representa todo lo que se encuentra fuera de esos tres tiempos. Es el todo y la nada.
Puede ser que en vez de Om veas escrito o pronunciado Aum. Las dos opciones son correctas y significan lo mismo. Aum representa el triángulo divino: la creación, la preservación y la transformación o aniquilación del universo.
Shanti significa literalmente paz, el estar en paz, entendiendo la paz como la ausencia de dolor, conflicto, sufrimiento y desorden y un estado de tranquilidad, mente en calma, bienestar, felicidad. Originalmente, Shanti viene de la raíz en sánscrito ‘sham‘ , que significa en calma y dicha.
Por lo tanto, y como os comentaba al inicio del artículo, con el canto de este mantra estamos pidiendo la paz para todos los seres vivos conocidos, nosotras/os incluidas/os.
Es un mantra poderoso que nos conecta con el amor y la compasión.
Si pruebas de cantarlo sintiendo su significado, con completa conciencia y presencia sentirás que tu energía cambia, es como si cada poro de tu piel estuviese propagando el mensaje. A mí se me pone la piel de gallina…
¿Por qué se repite tres vaces Shanti Shanti Shanti?
Se repite tres veces porque existe la creencia general que cualquier cosa que es dicha tres veces se vuelve verdad. Además, cada Shanti hace referencia a cada una de las tres realidades de cuerpo, mente y alma.
Por lo tanto, cuando cantamos el mantra Om Shanti Shanti Shanti estamos deseando que todos los seres vivos encuentren la paz en el plano corporal, mental y álmico.
También se piensa que se repite tres veces para harmonizar los tres mundos: tierra, cielo e infiemo.
Este mantra puede formar parte de otros mantras más largos o puede usarse como mantra individual.

¿Cuando usar el mantra Om Shanti Shanti Shanti?
Cuando te sientas intranquila y preocupada puedes cantar este mantra para que la serenidad vuelva a ti, al recordarte que independientemente de lo que suceda al exterior, siempre puedes volver a la paz que habita dentro de ti.
También puedes usarlo cuando te vengan pensamientos negativos, tras agradecerles su presencia, los dejas ir, te repites el mantra y vuelves a tu cuerpo y al momento presente.
También puedes repetírtelo cuando te toque vivir o soportar situaciones incómodas con personas, por ejemplo cuando estás conduciendo y alguien te pita o te chilla, en ese momento puedes hacer una respiración profunda y recordarte el mantra para invocar la paz en ti y en el otro.
También puedes usarlo en conversaciones subidas de tono o antes de comunicar tu visión. No se trata de aguantar, sino de que puedas transformar, siempre que se pueda, la situación desde la sabiduría y la compasión del corazón.
